He died yesterday morning during a brief illness at the age of 47.
In 2015, Okafor contested for Senate in Enugu East senatorial district under the platform of APGA but lost to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Senator Gil Nnaji.
Shortly after the election, Okafor was nominated as the APGA National Vice Chairman (south East) before he assumed the acting national chairman of the party when Ike Oye was suspended by the national executive committee of the party.
Rumour of his death spread across Enugu, his home state on Sunday afternoon.
Okpochengene, as Okafor is fondly called, passed on at Niger foundation hospital Enugu after brief illness.
His ally and political associate, the Assistant National Financial Secretary of APGA, Okecheckwu Nkolagu, who confirmed his death, said he (Okafor) died at about 8am on Sunday.
