Not less than 15 persons, including traders, were yesterday, when some suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorists stormed a local market in Daku villiage in Askiri Uba LGA of Borno State and burn down several shops, houses, motorcycle and vehicles.
The place actually shares boundaries with Chibok, Biu and Hawul council areas that have witnessed series of attacks and killing in recent past, Askira Uba is just about 190 Kilometres from Maiduguri.
It was gathered that the gunmen, which are about 20 in numbers are armed with AK-47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs invaded the market on motorcycles and Hilux Toyota Vehicle at about 11am and opened fire on the traders, killing 15 persons.
The gunmen also made a way with food items, or an unspecified amount of money before fleeing towards the Sambisa forest.
A very local trader who gave hs name as Bulus Gadzama said he had to adandon his wares and run for his dear life.
“I have to give thank to God almighty for sparing my life today. I just finished my church service at about 10:00am. I then proceeded to the market after dropping my Holy Bible at home, and all of a sudden after displaying my wares, we started hearing sounds of gunshots and explosions which forced everybody to scamper for safety.
“It was when the attackers fled before some of us summoned courage to go to the scene of the incident. It was then we realised that over 15 people were killed. Most of the shops in the market were set ablaze after looting food items.”
in his words:
One would say they actually came to get food from the market but what about the killing, do they have to kill before taking the food stuff?
