Bus Conductor Arrested For Biting Passenger’s Ear Over Fare In Lagos
|A 32-year-old bus conductor, Mr. Taiye Ajayi, was yesterday, charged with biting off the ear of a passenger at an Ejogbo Magistrate’s court in Lagos State.
Taiye, whose address is unknown, is being tried for unlawfully inflicting wounds.
Corpral Oluwayemi Adeleye, who is the Prosecutor, told the court that the accused bit off the ear of one Mr. Kabiru O. for refusing to pay his fare.
According to Adeleye, the accused committed the offence at McCom B/Stop, Egbeda, in Lagos, on August 23rd, at about 8.30m p.m
He said; “The passenger boarded a bus from Oshodi to Egbeda and informed the conductor about the little money he had on him as fare.
“The accused demanded for the balance of the fare when he got to the bus stop and thereafter a fight ensued.
“In the process, the accused bit off Kabiru’s ear.”
Adeleye said the offence contravened Section 244 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused maybe sentenced to 3 years imprisonment on conviction.
Though the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence but the Magistrate, Mr.P.E.Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till October 6, for trial.
