A Catholic Church was today Bombed in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital. Witnesses say that an attacker drove a car up to the St. John’s Catholic Church in the Bayan Gari area of the city just as people were leaving following the first mass. In reply to a text message, the Bauchi Police spokesperson, Mohammed Hassan, said that he was on his way to the scene to confirm the extent of damage and ascertain any possible damage. The Head, Public Relations Units of the agency, Yushau Shuiab, said four are confirmed dead, and three other injured victims were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for medical attention. “NEMA confirms a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device close to a worship centre in Wunti Area of Bauchi State and rescuers have evacuated the dead and injured to hospital,” he said.
However, a witness said that he saw at least ten bodies on the ground. Another witness said that she saw at least three bodies inside the church. Bodies and injured victims have been taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and the area cordoned off by police.
