A woman identified as Madam Ebitare the owner of a strange monkey, yesterday, threw the rank and file of policemen at the “A” Divisional Command of the state Police Command into a confusion following the fears of contacting Ebola virus disease.
It was reported that the owner of the monkey was arrested by a patrol team of the Police Division over alleged continued sales of dried and live monkeys at the Swali market in the state capital.
Madam Ebitare, was arrested and taken to the Hospital road headquarters of the Division Police Command.
Eyewitness said that the arrival of the monkey caused panic among policemen in the station. When the policemen sighted the monkey and the owner at the station, they ran for safety to avoid contact with them.
The apparent fear among the policemen drew the attention of the top ranking officers at the station, who immediately ordered the patrol team to take the woman out of the station.
A police officer who pleaded anonymity, said though the divisional head of the station was not aware of her arrest,” the incident shocked many. But we are aware and have alerted the ministry of health on the continued disregard of the sale of bush meat in the area.”
