The Edo state House of Assembly yesterday Wednesday impeached the Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea, for alleged misconduct and misdemeanor as the crisis in Edo House of Assembly lingers.
Edo State 15 lawmakers including the speaker of the House, Hon. Uyi Igbe, endorsed the impeachment when it help a plenary at the old chamber, located in the Government House in Benin City.
Moving the motion for the impeachment, a member of the House, Folly Ogedengbe, representing Own East 1, noted that the suspended Deputy Speaker was bound to be impeached, citing the Section 92(2C) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 72, Rule 18 of the Assembly.
The lawmaker immediately elected a new Deputy Speaker, Victor Edoror, who took oath of office immediately.
According to the lawmakers, they decided to hold sitting at the old Chamber, following the renovation in the Chambers, located at the King-square, at the Anthony Enahoro Assembly Complex. This they linked to the possible forceful entry by the Deputy Speaker and some aides.
