Green tea is fast becoming more popular than the regular black tea which has been in use for decades. The popularity of green tea stems from the dscovery of its incomparable and immense health benefits. The secret behind the green tea is found in the polyphenol which it contains. These polyphenols are natural organic chemicals made up of structured units of phenols. The most important polyphenol present in green tea is the catechin. The catechins also known as falvonoids present in plants contain antioxidants which have anticarcinogenic functions which aids it to fight cancer cells.
Green tea therefore inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It kills cancer cells without damaging the surrounding normal body tissues. It is particularly effective against esophageal cancer and in breast cancer. It also aids in the management of other forms of cancer. Other benefits of green tea include that it promotes a normal level of cholesterol in the body; it reduces the risk of cardiovascular/ heart diseases; it lowers blood pressure and help prevent stroke; it strengthens the bones and bone marrow, to mention a few. Infact it is impossible to fully exhaust all the health benefits of green tea here since they are indeed numerous.
Therefore, it is recommended to take green tea daily as it helps to boost immunity against diseases. Cancer patients and people with high blood pressure are mostly encouiraged to take green tea.
