About six gunmen have kidnapped the mother of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Lands And Survey, Mrs. Patimi Akene. The 78 years old woman was allegedly kidnapped on her way back from a church program on Saturday evening with her granddaughter.
The who did not fire a single bullet, carefully bundled her and her grand-child into a boat and zoom off. It was gathered that the tried to scream, but they deed handkerchief in her mouth to prevent her from shouting.
The kidnappers have contacted her son and demanded for his resignation as Commissioner of Land and Survey as ransom for the release of his mother.
Addressing the press, the Commissioner, whose mother was abducted, Mr. Furoebi Akene said:
“Someone that I suspected to be one of the kidnappers called me and said they don’t need my money. But that I should ‘withdraw’ from the present administration as commissioner. I think what they are demanding is for me to resign my appointment.
“My brother, I think the people interested in my job as commissioner in the state are the ones behind the abduction of my mother.”
