I’m most certain that a large number of people are not strangers to the word stress. As a matter of fact, as an African from this part of the World (Nigeria) , you would agree with me that most people have become stress personified .
Stress is your body’s reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response & it can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious.
Truth is this; we cannot entirely eliminate stress from our lives. That’s why I titled this article is about “reducing ” not “eliminating ” stress. We would always be reacting to one change or the other; whether its in our relationships, family, or on the job, because change is the only permanent thing.
Since stress can be induced by any external factor, what we must be concerned about is how to reduce our chances of getting stresses and cushioning the effect.
To reduce stress, its important to folliw this guideliness;
1. PLAN AHEAD : As human beings we feel safest in our Comfort zones & as such tend not to embrace anything that threatens the foundation of that safety. If you live each day without making plans, then you’re the perfect candidate for stress. It means anything & everything is allowed to “rock your world”……..
2. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL & WHAT YOU CANNOT : For a long time in my life I struggled to know the difference between this two things. There’s this tendency to worry over things we can’t Change. We do it all the time knowing fully well it’s a wasted effort. These things happen sometime & we would feel a lot better if we can focus on the things we can Change.
3. SAY NO : Now this is not a word to be readily found in most dictionaries. In the bid to be nice and Kind, we say yes and accept all manner of things to be dumped on us. As much as this may make you seem to be somebody’s or some people ‘s favorite, it can also make you overwhelmed, un effective and if course grumpy. The most successful & happiest people in the world have learnt how to drop unnecessary bagagge & travel light.
4. BE CONSCIOUS & IN CONTROL OF YOUR ACTIONS PER TIME: How many times have you heard the statement ” we are the architect of our own destiny ” Well it’s true, we shape our lives with what we do , say & how we respond to situations. Things can happen around us, and we might have no control over them, but we can choose and we must choose how we respond to them. You can choose to stay calm, or loose it.
