A foremost ivory tower in Nigeria, The University of Lagos has been renamed after the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential elections, Alhaji Moshood Abiola. President Goodluck Jonathan who made this known in his democracy day broadcast said that it is in recognition of Abiola’s accomplishments and heroism. He added that an institute of democratic governance will be established in the said university. Recall that M.K.O Abiola was incarcerated and died under Abdulsalami Abubakar’s military junta. Across the country, Abiola is seen as the hero of democracy and is been remembered every june 12th across western states of Nigeria.
