Land Dispute: Community Places Casket In Church



 

Worshipers at the Mount Zion Mission is Idong-Akpentun Uquo in Akwa Ibom State got a surprise package recently when youth from the community dumped a well prepared coffin in their midst during prayer session, ordering them to vacate the premises.
It was revealed that there has been a face-off between the church and people of  Idong-Akpentun Uquo community over a parcel of land on which the church and the pastor’s house under construction, currently stand.
Some of the worshipers who saw the coffin displayed on the floor of the church were said to have ran for their dear lives.

However, the resident pastor of the church, Ap. Udo, debunked allegations that the plot of land was illegally acquired, that they bought the parcel of land from one Mr. Okon William, some years back.

He added that they have all the necessary documents in respect of the land transaction. He also said that there was no problem until recently, when the church decided to build a befitting pastor’s lodge when family of the man they bought the land from started marking trouble.

According to the pastor, he said they issue was taken to the village council and later to the Magistrate Court in the area where the court ruled that the church should look for an alternative land for the family in order to assuage them.
