“Am I the only one who thinks most of our Naija Musicians seem to be in competition? The category being “Who has the fastest song” or “The best club banger”.
I mean, where has “good ole’ blues” gone to? Slow songs that melt one’s heart with words that one will never forget?
I grew up listening to “blues” and even after decades,I still bring them out from my archives and just listen.
I am not surprised that they still have the same effect on me as they did when they were first released.
Also,I have realised that most of our songs have similar rhythm, beat and flow.Almost as if one is listening to remixes.
I want to believe that so many Nigerians, like me,want to see our Artistes sing just for the love of music and the healing it brings to the heart without thinking of how many heads will bob to it.
Our Nigerian Artistes need to have more faith in themselves, find their own voices and express their own opinions through different words and sounds, look deep within their hearts and bring out songs that reflect emotions, moods and most especially songs that will speak to the listener.
That is when real music is born,if you ask me. Carry on.”
