PDP Heads To Court, Challenges Oshiomole’s Victory

Just when we were about to cheer that no party was going to contest the results of the Edo State gubernatorial election in which Governor Adams Oshiomhole emerged victorious, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has crashed the party. The PDP filed its protest at the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal, barely two days to the deadline. The election which returned Oshiomhole to a second term held on July 14, and was widely hailed as a free and fair election by most people, including stalwarts of the PDP like the party’s publicity secretary and the new presidential adviser on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe. Even President Goodluck Jonathan sent a congratulatory letter to the comrade governor. It was gathered that the PDP delivered its papers to the secretary of the Tribunal, Josephine Aliyu, before the close of work on Thursday. According to a top government official in Edo State, the PDP not only filed a position at the tribunal, but also filed another matter at the Court of Appeal. “Yes, we are aware the PDP has filed an appeal. They also filed another with the Court of Appeal,” he said. The tribunal secretary also confirmed the development yesterday.
