When a policy backfires, it is called policy somersault. This however can be imagined even before the policy reaches implementation stage. One policy very much likely to backfire is the idea of arming the Nigerian woman police. While they are presently been trained for that purpose in Akwa Ibom state, one wonders if all that should go into this are actualy been carried out, particularly the psychological part of it. Meanwhile, should the state arm more people even when the society is saturated with small and light weapons? What of the danger of rise in accidental discharge? What happens to the home front? Generally, women are known to be emotionaly unbalanced therefore,if they must carry arms, they must undergo long and thorough training on not just how to use the arms but also how to control their emotions. It will however be better to reserve this for the female soldiers while the female police should be effectively used in reconnaissance, surveillance and intelligence gathering instead of increasing weapons in the hands of people.
