Despite Opposition from the international community and human rights activists demanding the legalization of same sex marriage in Nigeria, President of the Senate, David Mark, has said that the bill prohibiting same sex marriage will see the light of day.
The senate president said the “law has come to stay.” Same sex marriage will become a criminal offense in Nigeria and punishable by law with 14 years jail term if the bill is eventually signed into law. He noted that, Nigeria has got to “prove to the rest of the world, who are advocates of this unhuman way that we Nigerians promote and respect sanity, morality and humanity.”
The bill becomes law only after it is signed by President Goodluck Jonathan.
