Niger Minister held over ‘baby trafficking’
Abdou Labo along with other suspected of acquiring new born babies from ‘baby factory’ in Nigeria
Niger’s Minister of Agriculture has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a baby-trafficking network, spokesperson for his political party and legal sources has said.
The arrest of Abdou Labo, a top figure in President Mahamadou Issoufou’s ruling coalition, actually comes after 17 people, including his wife and the spouses of other politicians, were arrested in June as part of a police investigation.
Abdou Labo, who was interior minister between 2011 and 2013, is deputy leader of the opposition Democratic and social Convention that is headed by Mahamane Ousmane, the country’s first democratically elected president between 1993 and 1996.
