Residents of Benin city got their eyes filled when members of the road transport employers association of Nigeria(RTEAN) and staff of a revenue tax collector Tony Kabaka engaged in physical brawls over territory. What seemed like a mere misunderstanding turned sour when vechiles were shattered and people were rushed to the hospital.
Speaking, Tony kabaka said he was given the right earlier this week by the Edo state government to collect taxes and when his boys went to resume work they were not allowed by the RTEAN, which eventually led to confrontations. Though residents of Benin are wondering why the state government will engage the services of someone as notorious as Kabaka, Governor Oshiomole was quick to address residents when he said these touts know best how to collect these taxes, in his words “you need a mad man to collect taxes from mad people”.
