From all the scrubbing and cleaning up of Saturday last week, I developed a pain in the wrist. I couldn’t tell if it was a sprain, a dislocation or a fracture but I feared the worst. Impulsively, I moved towards the chest of drawers housing my medications to take an anesthetic pill but stopped myself as I remembered I had just completed a week long dose of antibiotics for chesty cough. I opted for external medication and took out my deep heat balm to massage my hurting wrist.
This, I couldn’t bring myself to do because I knew the pain would be killing so I ignored the pain and let my poor, tiny wrist be. Now, I know that was clinically unsafe, but don’t be too quick to give me one of those Mr. Professional Health Care Practitioner Counselling. Three nights later, the pain magically disappeared in my sleep and on waking up; I didn’t realize it until much later.
Our bodies, clay as they may be, have amazing, innate, therapeutic qualities. I am not just talking about our white blood cells and antibodies which prevent diseases from invading our bodies. When our body soldiers (white blood cells and antibodies) lose the fight and these diseases knock us down, our body doctors come all out to cure these diseases and prevent them from putting a final end to our existence, if only we would trust them and be patient with them as we are with our human, medical doctors.
Insulin, the number one diabetic drug, is gotten from the pancreas of animals and made into a drug for the sugar-catalyzing disease. If such a wonderful and reliable therapy is contained in animals, how much more will the bodies of the higher class of animals contain? This explains why a knife cut closes up on its own, a wound dries and heals up, a cough gradually ceases, after a couple of days.
I may not be in the medical sciences but in my opinion, our creator foresaw that man would pollute his natural environment through industrialization, thereby causing diseases which will threaten his(man’s) existence so he put in us the solution-soldiers and doctors for every disease.
The next time you want to down a pill, ask yourself if it is absolutely necessary. If you can do without it, give it up. A glass of water and a good rest would take away that headache as good as a couple of aspirin pills would do. Drugs consist of chemicals, too much of which, like everything else, will eventually catch up with the recipient’s body someday. Don’t be too quick to throw back pills. When your body gets saturated with a particular drug, that drug fails to work for you.
Some drugs have side effects that are even more deadly than the diseases they were meant to treat in the first place. So, the solution to one problem leads to a bigger problem. Moreover, when we depend on drugs too often, we render our soldiers and doctors redundant; depriving them of the exercise they need to make them stronger and better. Sooner or later, they will lose their potency altogether.
Trust your God-given body to rejuvenate itself (you). It may take a little longer but it is sure safer; less expensive too, considering the millions of naira spend on drugs annually. Safe yourself some bucks, begin the natural healing process now!
